The manga is as popular as you’d expect any Dragon Ball related media to be. The manga volumes have sold millions of copies in both English and original Japanese. It was first published in the August 2015 issue of V-Jump. The anime adaptation was taken over by the popular Toei Animation famous for One Piece, Sailor Moon, Slam Dunk, and many more. It aired until 2018, after which the manga began serializing new original arcs for the readers. Ever since the anime stopped airing, fans have gotten no original anime content apart from the film Dragon Ball Super: Broly at the end of the final installment. Let’s talk about it all in detail.

Plot

Dragon Ball Super, as mentioned before, is a sequel to the original Dragon Ball series. It shows us Goku and his adventures during the ten-year time skip after defeating Majin Buu. It resumes the story 6 months after the defeat of Buu. Goku has secured a peaceful Earth for himself and everyone else. He now supports his family by farming. Of course, peace wasn’t going to last forever. Threats are always around in the world of Dragon Ball. This time, the new threat is the God of Destruction, Beerus himself. Beerus has finally awakened after being dormant for a long time. As Gods of Destruction go, he demanded to fight a Super Saiyan God. The condition? If the Super Saiyan God loses to him, he will destroy Earth. Goku steps up to this challenge. Getting help from Vegeta, Trunks, Goten, Gohan, and an unborn Pan, he becomes the Super Saiyan God. He battles Beerus but loses; however, seeing his talent and the effort he put in, Beerus spares Earth. Goku and Vegeta then march off with him and his assistant, angel Whis. Their objective? To train and become stronger. A tournament is soon held where all the universes’ greatest fighters would battle each other. The one standing victorious will attain the Super Dragon Balls. These are no ordinary Dragon Balls; they are the size of entire planets and have near-infinite wish-granting abilities. Universe 6’s God of Destruction and Beerus’ brother Champa wishes to restore their Universe’s Earth at the cost of Universe 7’s Earth. However, the tournament ends with Universe 7’s victory. Goku goes on to befriend Zeno. Around this time, fans get one of the most loved characters in the form of Future Trunks. Future Trunks shows up to the current timeline. He seeks Goku and Vegeta’s help because a new and powerful threat is wreaking havoc in the alternate future timeline. In this timeline, all the Dragon Team members have been killed, and Goku has died of a mysterious heart virus. Zamasu, Supreme Kai’s apprentice, is destroying all mortals after achieving Goku’s body and immortality from Super Dragon Balls. Trunks get Goku and Vegeta’s help. He becomes the first one to unlock the Super Saiyan Rage form. With this new form, he defeats Zamasu, but things take a turn for the worse when Zeno destroys that entire timeline to prevent Zamasu from ever coming back. Trunks are sent to a peaceful alternate timeline later on. Currently, the Granolah Survivor Saga features Granolah trying to exact revenge on a revived Frieza who is responsible for the destruction of his home, Planet Cereal.
