Marco Pennette created this series based on his personal experiences. He received a kidney transplant in 2013 and decided to tell his story of survival through a TV series. The series revolves around Drew, who is a therapist and a newly divorced single father. He has B-positive blood and needs a kidney donor due to his renal failure. However, he is unable to find one from his family. So, a woman from his past, Gina offers him one of hers. Gina is Drew’s former high school acquaintance. The duo forms an unlikely bond and friendship that will forever affect both their lives.
Season 1 Episode 8 Recap:
The title of the episode is “Integration Therapy” and it aired on 18 February 2021. Scott Ellis directed this episode written by Alexa Junge, Jim Patterson, and Heide Perlman. Here’s a quick recap of everything that took place in the previous episode. The episode features Drew dining alone at a restaurant. Julia, Drew’s ex-wife walks in and he soon realizes that all of their “couple friends” are still friends with Julia but they don’t have any contact with him. He talks to Gina about it, and the latter prompts him to have a party for the dialysis group. She suggests him to do that so he can be more sociable. Gina initially organizes the party and carries it through. However, after she had to leave due to some matter, Drew was left alone with the guests. Luckily, he bonds with the others and had a great time. After the party, Drew tells Gina about friends always drifting apart. Gina gets hurt by this as she thinks that the two of them will not remain friends after the transplant. However, her worries are soon at ease when Drew buys her a car after he learns that her motorcycle cannot be repaired. Drew sets up a schedule of “payments” which will make them stay in touch for decades to come.
